Air Jordan 4 "Black Cat"

The Air Jordan 1 was the first ever Air Jordan sneaker and debuted in April of 1985 for $65. Designed by Peter Moore, the shoe was the center of a famous marketing campaign in which Nike claimed the NBA banned Jordan from wearing the shoes — when it was in fact the Air Ship that received a warning from the league.

The annual tradition of celebrating Chinese New Year through the lens (or feet) of Jordan footwear continues as we get a detailed look at this upcoming tribute to the festivities. In a colorway wildly similar to Edison Chen’s selection on his Terracotta Warrior-inspired Air Jordan 13 Low collaboration, this upcoming issue displays a harmonious adherence of pink, tan and cream hues in premium suede uppers, with the floral hue adorning the opaque outsoles.

While Olivia Kim’s pony hair’d take certainly held few people over, it’s undeniable that many are still awaiting a true form recreation of the iconic Air Jordan 4 “Black Cat,” the colorway spawned from one of MJ’s nicknames and arguably one of the most versatile the silhouette has ever seen even to this day. Simple though well met, as its timing lies adjacent to many a revival: the Air Ship, the return of the AJ1 in 1985 shape, and so much more yet to be revealed.

Air Jordan 1 High 85 "New Beginnings"

February 15th

With big news surfacing on the return of the mythical Air Ship, the original shape of the AJ1, and a follow-up AJ5 collaboration by none other than Off-White, it’s difficult to imagine what else the brand could throw at us for their upcoming All Star Weekend festivities. Seemingly working much harder than previous anticipated while still retaining an opaque veil of mystery, the latest leak reveals what is likely to be the first Air Jordan 3 of the new decade.

February 29th

With 2019 being quite the interesting and rebellious year for the Air Jordan 1 — as we were able to see the illustrious COMME des GARCONS imprint take the silhouette through a realm of biker edge, Nike SB add another round of removable paints, and Eric Koston infuse his own childhood memories — 2020 seems to be more of a return to basics with a 1985 redo opening up All Star Weekend and a slew of colorways arriving in classic blocking throughout the rest of the year.

February 2020

Jordan Brand is having itself a day. After revealing its collaboration with French luxury brand Dior, it looks to long-time creative partner Hiroshi Fujiwara to offer the world a first look at the next two-pair pack of retros consisting of an Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG and the mythical Nike Air Ship. The former needs no introduction, although it does come dressed in a brand new red/white colorway with the OG-style hangtag, but the latter is a dive into the GOAT’s earliest days in the league that doesn’t get quite the attention it deserves.

Air Jordan 5 "Fire Red"

February 2020

Particularly for Jordan Brand, the stars of the sneaker game will align at the upcoming 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago. There’s no question that the Jumpman has some series programming in the works for that span of time in February, with perhaps the biggest ticket item being the looming collaboration between the two Chicago stalwarts in the form of the Off-White Air Jordan 5.

Originally a highly desirable PE that was at the center of a memorable UNC Football scandal in 2018, the Air Jordan 3 “UNC” is now set to release sans school logos in 2020. With a crisp color scheme that uses white leather, signature black/grey cement print on the heel/toe, and powder blue accents dispersed throughout the upper and midsole, the shoes nod to Michael Jordan’s beloved alma mater in both name and color scheme.

If 2019’s output of Air Jordan 4 Retros is any indication, what we can expect for the upcoming 30th Anniversary of the Air Jordan 5 is possibly a “What The” rendition, a full crop of new colorways such as the “Alternate Grape”, and the return of the Nike Air on the heel. After initial reports of a February 2020 drop of the original “Fire Red” Jordan 5 back in July of this year, we’re finally getting a first look at the original colorway, seen here in white premium leather uppers, fire red lining, a black midsole, and the coveted Nike Air logo embroidered on the heel.

March 28th

In 2006, Jordan Brand introduced its first-ever two-pair set called the Defining Moments Package – an honorary tribute to two of Jordan’s greatest moments as a professional basketball player. It expanded the idea of story-telling concepts in sneakers, and since its release, the Jumpman regularly returned to the two-shoe package to further expand on these historic moments by the GOAT.
